Hi: I'm a new member, this is my first post, so I hope I don't run afoul of any rules or conventions.

I've been trying to resolve this issue for a while, and thought it might be related to a lack of RAM, (256 mb). But these recent facts have given me pause and cause to think it might be time to seek some help

I just ran a Registry scan with CCleaner, and it reports that I have a lot of invalid ActiveX entries in my Registry (using XP Home SP2). CCleaner has offered to fix this . But its version of Fix is to remove the entries.

I suspect this might cause me more problems than I already have. My system is very slow. Browsers and Applications are very slow to boot. Can this Active X problems be repaired, if so how would I go about doing so.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Incidentally I am running a Software firewall and Anti-Virus, and scan regularly with Adaware. No problems are found.

Thanks for the opportunity to seek help with this issue.

Hi Rasputin. Welcome to the forum. :)

I don't get to post here often, but I just wanted to let know that I have used CCleaner to remove all invalid entries (From XP Home w/sp2) with no problems to speak of yet.

CCleaner is a rather mild registry cleaner, in my opinion, but I would always store the backup it makes, and I would also ensure that a recent restore point is made, too, before removing the invalid entries.

Here's some links to a couple of programs that I enjoy using for computer maintenance...

    Free Registry Defrag

    and

    Diskeeper Lite

I know that Windows has its own defragger, but it is a stripped down version that is made by Diskeeper. DK Lite works faster, and does a better job in my opinion.

Maybe some of the others will chime-in and offer some more suggestions for speeding up your PC.

Thanks for your response. I'll let CCleaner do its thing and see what happens.

    Again Thanks
