    Hi,

I am now living at a college campus for work where I am provided free internet, but I am having problems with mine. I run windows XP, and when I try to connect to the network, it doesn't go through.

If i do ipconfig /renew I recieve: an error has occured while renewing interface wireless netowrk.. unable to contact DHCP server

I ran a couple fixes that I found online and havn't had any success yet.

I recently booted from a friend's G: OS Live Disk, a linux disk... and have received internet, if not flawlessly, then with much more success, for I am posting right now on my laptop.

I run on a Latitude D820, and wired internet isn't an option

I went into regedit and deleted both winsocks, and then after reinstalled, by going to network connection, properties, install, protocall, have disk, C:\Windows\inf

I have no clue what to do, but I need the internet for work and I don't know what to do... oh and ironically, part of my work involves teaching children how to use computers :/

any help would be awsome!! :), but I don't think its the winsock.. since that what everyone responds to in every post I have seen yet...

Hi zblender89. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

The first thing I would try would be to run TCP/IP Repair. I would run both the Reset TCP/IP Stack and the Repair WinSock Issues in the program.

Also take a look in device manager and click View< Show Hidden Devices. Are there any red X's or Yellow Exclamation points next to any devices? Are you running any third party firewall? What security programs do you have installed?

Post the output of ipconfig /all from the affected PC.

If you live and work on campus, call the campus MIS help desk and ask them about configuration issues. Since your PC connects wirelessly under an OS other than windows, your hardware must be working properly. By deduction, I would say some kind of software is starting up when booting under Windows and preventing your PC from establishing an internet connection. You should check for security software suites causing this problem, which are the cause of your error about 95% of the time.
