    Hi,
    please help!!!I'm losing my mind.
my internet keeps disconnecting. I've spoken with my ISP and we checkd the power mangement for the USB to see that it doesn't shut off to save power.
I also checked for spyware and the computer is clean.
the link light on my modem stays on when it disconnects and only the Data light turns off.
I've checked with my phone company and they say the line is fine.
I thought at first that it has something to do with e-mule but it disconnects even when e-mule is not on.
I have ADSL 1.5mbps and an ale-130 modem.
please bare in mind that I'm not a computer genius.

    Thanks in advance.
    Ron

Well, I'm not genious either but you may need a new modem. Also you may want to uninstall the driver or installation software. Restart your computer and do a whole new installation. And checked that the connections on the modem are all tight.

    Hope this works for you.

I am not familiar with asdl.
What I would check is the network card.
Perhaps put in a pci network card.
You might try to ask the isp which one they prefer.
Here the cable isp recommends smc network cards , the dsl which is closer to asdl as it has a dial in component likes d0link ( horrors just spent an afternoon with a d-link network card with disk from a sealed box) with no luck.
If you have a windows xp machine and get a somewhat older nic card it should install by itself.
If you have windows 98 look for a name brand like ibm, intel , 3com etc to install by itself. If not buy a new card or have the isp give you one ( before you leave the service) with the correct driver disk. There are plenty of specific versions of each manufactures cards . You need the correct one or it will not install.
When installed it will show up as working in the directory tree with no exclamation points.
It may be possible for you to get a ASDL router even if you only have one computer. The router will log on . Not you. I know with the dsl connections the router can be set tp connect on computer activity or be on all the time and redial if the connection goes down.
Check cables . It may even be a connection leading in or into your house.
Also I recommend a program called Network Magic - it will simplify a lot of networking setup and reconnect you if the connection goes down.
DSL seems to have a lot more headaches than cable. Since the connection is on all the time ( you are on a giant lan) if you lose the connection it comes back easily. With DSL ( and I assume ASDL) it is dropped and has to wait for the connection to redial.

hope this is not too complex
    - install a pci network card
    - check cables
    - perhaps a router to log you on
