Internet gateway problem?

Hi,
I have just set up two toshiba laptops fitted with belkin wifi cards, a desktop and a BT Voyager wifi access point.
Both laptop's (XP HOme) and desktop (XP Home) can get online and share the net connection, but only one laptop can 'see' the desktop.
Both machines were set up the same way, but when you go into network connections - the 2 nd laptop has an extra connection - Internet gateway
- This is the only difference I can see, can this be the problem?

They are.
have just restored from the restore disc, have installed the wifi card again and still I cannot get this particular laptop to join the network!
The other one went fine

Check the machine that doesn't work. Do you have the guest account (passworded) enabled and see if Sharing is enabled in network connections on the toolbar>Advanced>advanced settings- TCP/IP should be sharing with Client for Microsoft and Printer and Filesharing. Also enable netbios over tcp/ip in the TCP/IP properties>advanced>wins.
