Internet Explorer won't expand to full screen

I am experiencing a problem. When I push the little square icon in the upper right of the screen, Internet Explorer SHRINKS to a smaller window, instead of expanding to full screen. If I then push the double square icon (which should cause it to shrink to a window), it returns to a larger size, but still in a window.

Any idea why IE isn't expanding to full size? I've rebooted a couple of times, and it still behaves this way.

Push F11 for full screen...push F11 again to return to a window.

 

Hold down your left click button and drag the sides of the windows where you want them. When you click on the red X to exit, hold down the Control key. Windows should "remember" the size the next time you open the browser.

Thanks for the idea. That did not help. Recall that I said the buttons are working in reverse of normal behavior. Hitting the button to grow the screen (large block) shrinks the window. Hitting the two nested blocks (calling for a window) grows the screen, but not quite to full size.

I also tried holding the control key on exit, that did not change it.



I think it is time for me to reinstall Explorer 5.5. Does anyone see any problem in that?

Did you try dragging the sides of the window to the desired size?

what happens if you right click one the desktop > new > create shortcut ,, copy paste this into the command field..Leave the " "

next> etc open it >,Home >, buttons still mixed up ?
if you can get one IE with normal buttons,, stretch it to near maximized then the press ctrl and hit the x button trick might help

yes why not upgrade to IE6 with sp1

 

I have Windows 95 on this computer. Microsoft says IE6 won't run without Win98. Cannot get Win 98 anymore.

I wonder if exporting this hkey FIRST [for reversal safety] and then deleting it as suggested would help:

And just to throw an odd rare possibility out there...
You wouldn't have used an isp [as in free] that has/had an ad splashbar or toolbar that ran across the top of IE or desktop? Maybe tried to kill this some how? Ad blocker? I'm just thinking that IE's window placement has been thrown out Whack. The deletion of the hkey value should work.

How about some sort of toolbar that is using an autohide switch?

You could also try opening IE full/maximized and drag open your startmen taskbar so it pushes the ie windows where it belongs. It's worth a shot, only takes a second....

and on the right side delete the entry Window_Placement
