Quite often now I get the message that Explorer has carried out an illegal operation and will shut down. I generally have to reboot. I took the advice in a closed BBS thread to carry out the repair operation on IE. That has not improved the situation.

I might wonder about the Security settings (Tools -> Options). If you have set them high, try returning to default. Have you changed any of the "Advanced" settings?

Another may be a conflict with the Firewall. Try updating or reinstalling.

Antispyware and Antivirus up to date?

Another program may be causing it malfunction.

Does it happen when you go to a certain website/sites?

It could depend on activities at a website, like running Java or Macromedia Flash Player.

I have put the Security and Advanced settings to default.

I will make a note of the circumstances when it occurs and report back. That may be a day or so or it could be minutes.
