Recently installed Norton Internet Security 2003, done all the updates, and update the defs every three days. I've got win ME with the Adobe CS Suite, Some Macromedia stuff and Microsoft Office 2000 on my system. I also have Adaware and Spybot search and destroy. When ever I try to execute a command by right clicking on my mouse, (such as checking out a folders properties, copy or move), I keep on getting the "connect to" dialog box. I have to click the close "X" three times, before finally it goes away, then I get my normal "right clicked window menu ". Anyone know what causes this "hell" of a problem?

When I'm starting up my computer, I also have to close this "****" "connect to" dialog box four times, before my desktop is finally up and running. I did a diagnostic run-through using the "start up config" in msconfig. I switched off Norton Internet Security, and everything is fine, but then I'm exposed to viruses. I have tried other virus programs like AVG and iSecure, but they don't seem to be as thorough, as Nortons Internet Security.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello radiogold,

Any info as to what the connection destination is? It might be to Symantec servers for updates - do you have automatic update turned on? Check that possibility.

Otherwise, sounds like you have something nasty running. Download HijackThis.

    HijackThis instructions:

Download from here http://radiosplace.com/ latest version 1.99.1

Download it to it's own folder, for example C:\HijackThis - unzip (double click on zipped folder) - click on the execute - click scan button - click save log and save to the folder you just created *DO NOT FIX ANYTHING* - copy resultant .txt file and paste into your next post.

Reference for the folder issue: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=45568

This thread will be moved to the virus/adware removal section by one of the Mods.

    Regards - Charles

I had the same problem, turned out Norton's was trying to check for publishers certificate revocation. Had to de-select the option under tools/options/advance. Scroll down to Security section and de-select the first option about checking for publishers certificate revocation. It's a bug in Norton's that first appeared way back in January 2003, I think, and was never fixed.

    Hi ivajig,

I would aggree, as all adaware, spybot, and norton internet security have detected no viruses, with the latest defs. Ruling out the cause of a virus, I tried following your advice, but could not find a "tools" menu on my copy. The top bar reads as follows. "security monitor" - "block traffic" - "live update" - "rescue" - "options" - and "help and support ".

I looked in options, thinking that advanced settings would be in there, but there was a drop down menu that simply said "norton internet security" or "norton antivirus ". Clicked on both, and they both took me back to the programs main menu.

The only setting that I could find went as follows for "norton internet security ". The tabs were:

    "general" - "live update" - "firewall" - "web content" and "e-mail ".

You must have a different version then me.

Radiogold, sorry I wasn't more explicit. The tools that I was referring to is found in your internet explorer window. You can also right click your Blue E on the desktop and select properties and then the advance tab.
