    Hello!
    Please help.
Internet Explorer 6.0 "hangs" for me whenever I go onto a new web site. There is a 10 to 60 second delay after the page has loaded before I am able to click on anything on a particular web site.
The blue bar on the bottom left almost goes completely to the right and it says "done ". However, there is this lag time in which I am not able to do anything. Once I am inside a site, sometimes I am able to navigate without delays, often times there is a delay at each new page I click into.
It happened on IE 5.0 and 5.5 as well.
I have followed advice to clear cache, delete cookies, clear history etc. None of this works.
Often when I have two web sites up, one minimized, I am able to continue to navigate on the original site I was on without delay, but there is always this "hang time" on the other site I'm on.
I connect to the internet with a 56 k modem.
    My ISP is earthlink.
Will a faster connection help this? Or will there still be the problem, only it will be corrected faster?
    Please help!
I consider myself to be a beginner to intermediate in terms of computer knowledge.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

    Hi jimmybCT

    Welcome to the boards!
What version of windows are you running? A few more system specs such as Ram would help? Have you disabled any unneccessary apps from running in the background through msconfig?

    thanks for replying

    Thanks for replying!
    I am running windows 98.

Perhaps I am closer to a beginner. Are you talking about realplayer, a scanner etc. as system specs? If not, please let me know.
Somebody once mentioned more ram to me too. How would I go about adding ram?

    Thanks so much.

    :)

    Hi again jimmybCT

Before you go about the process of adding more ram, whow about you tell us how much you already have?

    As for the msconfig thing:

Remove programs from start up in msconfig:
    Go to start
    Run
    Type in
    msconfig
    Press OK
    A new window will open
    Click on the startup tab
Remove all checks or ticks from program you don't need at startup
There is a list of most of the program that you will find here listed Msconfig entries
    and
    More of the same
    Click Apply
    Click OK to reboot

    63.0 MB Ram

I have 63.0 MB of RAM.
    System resources are 73% free
    File system 32 bit
    Disk compression: Not installed

I removed a couple of checks from programs like you said. Still gets hung up.

    Hi again jimmybCT
Additional ram would most definitely help you. Perhaps as little as another 64?

    Startup microsoft office startup

Daizy, thanks for the links concerning what is needed and not needed in startup. I disabled microsoft office startup in msconfig, but whenever I restart the computer it is enabled again. Is there something that overrides the disable in msconfig?

    Thanks,

    Marvin

Does your pc have an eithernet (nic) card installed that isn't being used? If so, go into device manager and disable it.
