Internet Explore 6 can,t down load

I have used E Tax on W98se , it down loaded the tax pack but won't let me sent it to the ATO. their tech's think it is because I only have IE & OE 5.5.
So I logged on to Microsoft and tried to down load IE 6. ( It was only a small file I expected a large one ) But when I opened it I had Kyodia Mah Jongg instead, also my Provider has a download link on their home page and it did the same.
Do I need XP to get IE 6 ???. Any help muchly appreciated. Cheers Des.

 

The file you downloaded isn't the installation file, it's a "setup" file that, when opened, connects to Microsoft to start the downloading of the files needed to install the IE6 upgrade and then goes on to complete the installation. You're right in that the actual download is large...10 megabytes or more (usually more).

I've seen the problem you're having happen when the setup file is saved to the desktop. Move it to another location on the harddrive, connect to the net, disable any anti-virus you may have running and then run it to see if it will work.

 

Hi, Miz & Steve, Sorry about delay have been away. I have just seen the other threads on IE 6. I dont have it to up date . or does it just up date 5.5.
I tryed to down load it from my providers home page link also from microsoft and got the same thing. I will go back and start again & let you know . thanks again Des.
