I use Windows XP "“ I have just installed the upgrade from Windows 98 to XP, XP has retained my settings (internet connection settings) but I have a small problem, I cannot change the password associated with my username when I connect to the internet. Every time that I use my dialup connection to the Internet I have to manually change the password. I have tried to change the password by creating a new connection, editing the settings and XP always inserts the same incorrect password. How do I fix this?

Do you know its a incorrect password, as XP changes whatever password you enter to ******** (roughly), how ever many letters you enter, to make it more difficult for people to guess you password.
    Hope this helped

Try creating a new Dial Up Connection - Start > Settings > Network Connections or Control Panel > Network Connections and then File > New Connection.

Enter all the relevant data from your existing connection along with the correct password - OK out - check it works and then delete the original connection and rename the new connection if you wish.

Works on dial up, possibly not on DSL.

Do not simply copy the original connection.

Are you sure it is not just prompting for the password? Check your settings in the dial-up connection. Under Options, be sure there is not a check in the box for prompting for username, password, etc.

Thanx for everybodies help - the problem is now sorted out. XP assigned a new password to my internet connection and I did not realise that this was the correct password. Guess you are never to old to learn.
