The modem of my Win95 Toshiba laptop connects properly to the ISP, but then no internet site contact or email download can be made.
I talked to the ISP guys but they say it could be a fault in the OP system. Since everything else works fine I feel there has to be an easier explanation. Could anyone tell me about the settings in the Control Panel and anything else that might matter? In the Device Manager under "PCM Communication Device" there is an exclamation mark and a question mark. Under "Properties" it says the driver is not installed correctly, but in the Driver Tab it indicates there is no driver at all. Code 28 tells me to update the driver but I don't know which one it is and where to get it from.
Anyone who can help me, please?
    Cheers Axel

    Hello axel,
In Device Manager, try highlighting the "PCM Communication Device" and clicking Remove. When you reboot if the drivers were previously installed correctly it should install them automatically, if not, the message will be the same and you will need to find drivers for it.
Is the modem built-in or does it connect into the PCMCIA connector? If it is built-in you could find the make and model in the specifications for the laptop. Go to the Support website at Toshiba and it will tell you how to find the model number. Look up the specifications or go to the downloads section.

If it is a plug-in modem it should state the make and model on the label. Put the make and model into a Google search and find the drivers.

The problem may be in the PCMCIA drivers. They are probably MS drivers, but look on the Toshiba website for them or an updated version.

    Matt

    Hi Mattman,
sorry for responding so late. I was in hospital for a couple of days.
I followed your advice and found the right driver. Hence everything works fine now.
I also live in Sydney. Perhaps I can buy you a beer one day.
    Cheers and many thanks again
    Axel

    You're on! :D
Good to hear the machine is working again and hope everything is mended on the health side.
    Cheers
