OK, where to begin. The computer will not connect to the internet through my ethernet card. Internet provider comes today and tells me the ethernet card is working fine and I must have a virus that is blocking it from connecting.
So he proceeds to tell me to run spybot. Then if that didnt work to click on format the c drive. Of course none of this has worked. Cant format the drive by right clicking on c drive and of course the computer manufacturer cant give me the disk for it because they need it to be floppy and this computer doesnt have a floppy drive.
Everytime I contact the manufacturer about this they say call the internet provider and of course the internet provider says contact the computer manufacturer.
So my question is, what do I do to this computer, short of throwing it out the window?

    Hi elfmom2393

Please go Here and download the newest version 1.99.1. Please be sure to save it to a permanent directory, such as C:\Prgram Files\HJT.

Run a scan and save log, and post it in the removing spyware and virus form.

Someone will take a look at it.

DO NOT try and fix anything with HJT unless told to do so.

    Hello elfmom2393,

The only item that I can spot that might be the cause of this problem is this line:

    C:\Program Files\Compaq Connections\1940576\Program\BackWeb-1940576.exe

Try stopping BackWeb-1940576.exe from starting on bootup:

From the Start menu, click on run.
    Type msconfig and ok.

Then in the System Configuration utility, click on the Start tab.

Uncheck BackWeb-1940576.exe - if its not there, post back.

Afterwards when you boot up, you'll get a message from the System that you have changed the startups, tick the box on the left to shut the message off.

You write that you ran SpyBot - which should have flagged that item.

    Regards - Charles
