This morning when I left for work, I was using the net and everything was fine. I have bellsouth dsl and it is fast. I come home tonight and it takes forever to get on the net. When I do get on, I cannot go to a lot of sites. I have a lap top that is hooked up with all of the wireless gizmoes and it is working just fine and fast. Why all of a sudden the connection and the speed on my desk top is not hardly working at all, but the laptop is still working just fine? Help!!!! I have windows xp office.

Let's see....the usual drill when troubleshooting a "general slowdown" kind of problem that I use is: (Proceeding down the list until something good happens ;) ):

    1. Reboot to make sure nothing is "stuck" (yeah, a technical term ;) ) hogging resources
    2. Scan for spyware and remove any found (by downloading, installing, immediately updating and running Spybot and/or AdAware)
    3. Downloading and running the CoolWebSearch removal tool (download link at the bottom of the page).
    4. Running a full system scan with an up-to-date anti-virus program (if you're accustomed to opening email attachments or you use a file sharing program, you might want to try this one first)
    5. Running a trojan scan. Several can be found doing a Google search for "online trojan scan. "
