When I boot up my pc it seems to take forever to get internet access. All my icons show on my desktop but on the bottom on the right my internet connection spins for a long time about 5 mins.
How can I speed this up ?

Hi, GVan, and welcome to the forum!

It could be unneeded services (or possibly even malware) slowing your computer down, but then again, it could be a networking issue. I'm not a networking expert, so hopefully someone else will chime-in on this thread.

Do you switch on your DSL modem/router before switching on your computer & does the data light become stable ?

Since when are you experiencing this problem ? Were any changes made to either hardware or software ?

No I did not make any changes. Once i have a network connection everything works fine.
Have good speed explorer responds rightaway and pages load quickly.
It has to be something in the boot procedure that delays the connection to the network.

Computer may be having difficulty getting an IP address from the router.
If computer isn't a laptop then try setting a static IP to see if that helps.

Here’s a link for description of how to do it windows-7-static-ip

Also have you tried resetting the router.
    Turn computer off
Pull plug on router, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
Wait for router to settle down then turn computer back on.

Yes I did try to reset the router, but didn't help.
Then I unplugged everything and reconnected all, then hit the reset button for 30 secs
booted up the comp. and everything seems to work good. Booting up and connected to the internet in 2mins and 15 secs.
Everyone thanks for all the help and suggestions I really appreciate it. It helped me focus on procedure and pointed me in the right direction. Seems the problem is solved.

You are also running an unsecure of IE. You say you are on IE9 and IE 10 has been out for close to 7 months now. It was offered thru MS updates. Did you decline it or do you not do updates?

Open up IE and then go to Tools/Windows updates and on the left click on Check for updates and see what it shows that you need. If it has some, download them and then go right back and check till there are no more. Just Critical is all you need. Of course if it says that you need to reboot do that before checking for more.

Yes Bill I had windows update turned off. Have turned it back on and downloaded all the updates including Ei10.system running great now. I use advanced system care and Iobit Malware Fighter. That seems to keep my system clean. And I use McAfee security center version 11.6.
I would think that should be enough to keep my system clean.

Thank you for all the help George

Ok I wondered about that. It is gone.
    Really don't need it anyway.

    Thanks George

If you look at what I have, I don't remember the last time I had any problems. I have that on all my computers and the grandkids come over and use them all the time and they go everywhere on them. What little that I have got, what I have installed and kept up to date, has served me well over the years.
