Running Win 98SE. I have a TUSL2-C motherboard. My system currently has 2 USB ports on the back and I would like to add more. Found this Belkin USB 2.0 PCI Card at Office Depot's website. I have two questions:
    1. Is USB 2.0 backward compatible...will USB 1.1 work on this port?
    2. If I hooked this up to my system, will the PCI card USB ports be POWERED?

Since my previous post on USB PCI card, I have found 4 and 5 port USB PCI Cards. The descriptions mention 4 external and 1 internal. What do they mean by that since it appears all of the USB ports are on the same PCI card which you install IN your computer?

Will the PCI USB be POWERED? What's the difference between connecting additional USB ports to a SECOND USB CONNECTOR built into the motherboard and just sliding in a USB PCI card?

Hey AceH...Usually your USB ports buit in to the motherbaord are ver 1.1. The PCI card you put in is or should be ver2.0 which is backward compatable to ver 1.1.

The internal USB may be used for bringing a USB port to the front of your box without going around the case. That is if your case has a provision for installing a port on the front.

Yes the USB ports from the PCI card are powered.
They will work just like the USB ports that come out the back of your motherboard.

Adeptec makes a dual connect USB/Firewire pci card that has been said to be excellent.( Tomshardware.com).

Thanks Bmore1129. One more question. What do they mean when a PCI USB is advertised as 4 external 1 internal when they all appear to be on the same PCI card which you insert internally?

That would mean that 4 of the ports would stick out the back of the box and one would be on the PCI card accessable from the inside of the case only.

Thanks again Bmoore1129. Ok...the USB port INSIDE the system is what threw me off. I had no idea there would be one inside....seems useless to me, IMO.
