    Over the last couple weeks I've been experiencing intermittent stop 0x0000008E errors. At first, the machine would just randomly restart until I set it to create the blue screen with the stop message. It usually occurs only once a day, but for some reason today it happened twice back to back, at the time I was just doing an Adaware scan with no other applications open. The other day when I booted up, the machine went straight to the BIOS setup screen, I had to power off and on and it came up without a problem. I am beginning to suspect faulty memory, but I thought I would post here for some help in diagnosing the error. I followed the instructions I found in another post here about running the MS memory test. I let the test run for 4 passes and it found no errors. I also created a debuglog as per the instructions in the same post, and I'm attaching it here.

    Here is the actual BSOD message;

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
    This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
    the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
    as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
    Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
    coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
    /NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
    hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
    If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
    system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
    Arg2: bf803a44, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: f48e9cb8, Trap Frame

    Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. Sorry to take so long to post back. I'll check out the links you posted, I'm also going to try swapping out my ram to see if that makes a difference. I'll post back with the results good or bad.

    I ran the extended memory diagnostics again and it found no errors. I swapped out my ram with some new PC3200 and so far no more blue screens. At least for now I'm going to chalk this up to the old memory going bad. If nothing else, it presented me with the opportunity to upgrade to faster memory and add some at the same time.
