I travel away to another part of our country and I log in at a motel using the wireless connection. I then access our VPN and from there seem to have intermittent connection at the motel I stay at. Every few seconds while logged in thru VPN I can type and nothing appears on the screen it just sits locked up. After about 30 seconds it will add in what I have typed, only to repeat this a few seconds later. I try the same setup at a cafe and log in to their wireless and I get no lock outs. I have tried at the motel, time and time again. Signal levels seems fine. I have tried different locations at the motel at get the same lockout result. I am using XP. What should I try, or check to solve this problem??
Outside of the VPN I have no issues, I don't get a lockout.

Have you tried it from the lobby which should be pretty close to their router?

    Hi Bill,

    Thanks for reply.

I just tried it in the lobby and checked the router was near and problem still persists.

The problem is not the wifi connection, the problem is due to the hotel's bandwidth being to low, or the hotel's network firewall/router. Its router may not be configured properly for VPN passthrough.

    Hi Tony,

Thanks I will advise the hotel to see if we can get them to increase bandwidth and or ensure configured for VPN. I won't know till next month when I visit again.

If you try running a constant PING to let's say google.com you can see the fluctuation in the bandwidth.
let us know how you get on
