I recently installed a new 80Gb HDD. To accomplish this I had to add a PCI IDE card. The old 40Gb HDD was kept for back up purposes. The computer made the 2nd (old) HDD drive d:/. But, sometimes it changes upon boot up to another letter (like "i:/ "). Yes, I have devices or partitions on the drive letters in between. This changing of drive letters totally messes up the shortcuts throughout the computer. How do I stop this schizoid behavior?

    Thanks, Lar

Maybe a long shot, but do you have a network? Try disabling file and print sharing.

    Another one....
Suppose you've tried running them both off the PCI card, or one on the card the other off the M/B. Try running them on the one cable/separate cables.
Haven't had much to do with IDE cards but I hope this may plant some seeds.:)

    Hi Mattman,

I am going to try to re-order my drives on the IDE cables.

I was wondering.... even though my BIOS detects my primary HDD as WD800B (Western Digital 80Gb), Windows only says that it is a Generic Type 47 in Device Manager. I am told that it should specifically say what HDD it is. (I am configuring for DV editing).

Any suggestions on how to change that?

    Thanks, Lar
