My monitor screen goes blank intermittantly after start-up or after wake-up, sometimes very briefly (momentarily) or for up to several minutes. Sometimes the screen will go blank several times, sometimes only once. After about 15-20 minutes, the problem does not re-occur until another boot-up or wake-up cycle. The wake-up can be from any power saving mode. The power LED light on the monitor does not change from the on green light, as it does to orange for power save mode or no color for power-off mode. Changing the screen saver can sometimes affect the frequency of the blank screens, but nothing has resolved the problem for any length of time. The ASUS motherboard features screen saver gave a glimmer of hope, but alas, no joy.
System: ASUS A7A266 with Athlon 1.0 GHz; 512 M DDR2100; Norton System Works; Diamond Viper II 32M video card. Windows 98SE with all updates; IE6 with all updates; Microsoft Office 2000 pro with all updates. I have used Microsoft Power Management Troubleshooting tool. Everything works but the screen goes blank, makes me mad, then lights back up like nothing is wrong. Please help.

Make sure that the power saving is turned off either in Windows on in the BIOS. Having both on can cause strange problems, such as what you're experiencing. The problem, I believe, is something along the lines of "too many cooks ruin the stew" :D

Thanks very much for the advice. :D The BIOS Power Management was set to "User Defined ", the default option. I changed that to "Disabled ". The ASUS User's Manual is a little unclear about how best to use this set of controls with Windows, except to say that Windows 98 has power management tools that should be used.
