Hello i hope someone can help me
IBM Thnkpad R51 Windows XP Pro SP3 ( now)
Standard Intel 2200 BG card that can in the laptop - boots up
I have even swapped the card with another ( although it would not take an intel ABG card on bootup)
The wifi connections sporadically lists WPA - some of the times it sees WPA on some , other times WPA signals are seen as WEP only - hence i cannot log on
I have installed various drivers , drivers only , the intel applications and drivers
I have reinstalled fresh copies of windows
Some of the signals are listed as WPA
Others only as wep yet they are WPA2 source
Any ideas of what is wrong and what i can do to correct this issue

    thank you

Flaky/dead hardware. Lenovo wanted $989.00 to fix the same problem in a W700(?). They wanted to replace the entire motherboard and wireless switch.

I purchased a tiny 'nano' USB wireless adapter (with WPA2) for 30 bucks or so. It's so small the user simply leaves it plugged in a USB port. Works great.

My action would be to try the drivers for that card from the Lenovo site, and if no joy, try the drivers from the Intel site.

And make sure the antenna connectors are really clipped on tight & proper.

Use the Wireless Zero from Windows to connect, but first remove all preferred networks. (previous wlan connections list)

My experience with the intel2200 is that it's a buggy card. I had issues with it on several clients' laptops.

Just had a call from a client today with a similar issue. I setup a wifi router for him last weekend & used WPA Personal TKIP and all clients can connect except his laptop with that 2200BG card. Tomorrow I will load the 2009 Intel driver & see what happens.

The 2009 version is the latest version as it's a discontinued product. Previous versions of that driver had memory issues and WPA issues.

    Update

The new drivers didn't help. I swapped the 220 card for a broadcom 43xx I had laying around, WPA works.
