My nephew and I are trying to install XP Pro on a computer that already has 98SE on it and neither of us know how to reformat the drive. Is there any simple instructions for us to replace 98 with XP on our computer? I'm hoping between the two of us if the instructions aren't too complicated we may be able to do this. I don't need to save any data just want to set this up for internet use only. I don't think it has any partitions.

I think you have misinterpreted the article although it ould have been wrtten a little clearer ....
The only here means that you cannot upgrade to XP Home from NT 4 or W2k or from XP Home of course.

    I hope that's clear :D

    Hi mccoady,

You write "neither one of us know how to reformat the drive ". That means you're attempting a clean install, not an upgrade.

Once you're doing that, than upgrading from what OS to what OS is not an issue.

    Yes you can.

The HD that I am on right now is a COPY of a 40gig that started out with Win95. Then upgraded to o 98 Then to 98SE and is now XP Pro and has not been formated inbetween.

But I MUST add that I believe there may be more than one version of Win95 which might make a difference.

I got a lot of remarks about living dangerously. They are right. But i had NOTHING to lose as I still had the other machine. Alias/ BACKUP/

I think that if I had only had the one machine I still would have copied the HD and set the original aside.

Something VERY IMPORTANT when upgrading overtop that I forgot.

You do need to watch carefully and make sure the new OS goes into the existing Windows Directry.
