    Hi,
I'm getting ready to install (upgrade) Windows Vista Home Premium , I currently have Windows XP (Home Edition). Is there anywhere I can go to print out how to do this. I know when I upgraded my friends from Win98 to Win XP there was a link someone gave me to print out step by step instructions, made it soooo easy. If anyone would have a link it would be greatly appreciated.

Also...I've been reading and where do you see if you have a 32 or 64 bit? Here is what I find on my sytem:

    Pentium(R) 4CPU 3.00GHz
    2.99GHz, 1.00GB of RAM

    Thanks, RHonda

    Hello Rhonda,

First, run the upgrade advisor - it'll evaluate the system: whether Vista will run and if it will - how well it will run with the current hardware and drivers, especially the graphics card: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

This article from Extreme Tech is a how to and more on upgrading and other install options: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2082979,00.asp

I'm on Vista right now and off the top of my head don't remember where you see 32/64 bit system for XP, but I think if you had a 64 bit system, you'd know it :) And XP 64 bit is for XP PRO only.

My advice would be not to UPGRADE Vista over XP, but rather do a clean install. Yea, takes a little longer with re-installing all your applications, but I think it'll be more stable for you, and you'll experience fewer problems at a later date, such as starting a thread titled "I just got the WEIRDEST error message and nobody has a clue as to how to approach this???" hehe...:)

    Hi RHonda,

Agree with CrunchDude, clean install is the better long term option. And you can use an "upgrade" Vista to do it with.

Well I'll just be doing a clean install of my XP...going to take awhile to save files as I have a bunch of stuff to save....but I ran the Vista thing to see if my computer was compatiable...well it is but nothing else I have is: my 2 printers and allot of software I use isn't compatiable with Vista, so going to redo my Window XP....

Just a thought. Have you tried looking for newer versions of the sotware you use? Perhaps there are versions compatible with Vista now?

I can understand the frustration of software/hardware not being compatibel. I use an enlarging software called Zoomtext, which magnifies the display on my screen. I had to upgrade to the new version to get it to work with Vista. It's not the fault of the developers however, they have to scramble and make a new version to make it compatible with windows/driver interface, because Microsoft always changes it on them with new versions of windows.

Have you tried looking for Vista drivers for your two printers?

Rhonda...why don't you list a few of your apps that you deem to be the least likely to run on Vista, so that we can better ascertain as to whether you can upgrade now...

I'd be happy to look for some drivers for you, if you would like. :)
