If I get the Windows XP Upgrade version can I simply install it on a computer with a clean HD? With Windows 98 upgrade it would ask to see a CD of an earlier version of Windows and you could put your factory CD in the CD drive and it would check it. It did not require the operating system to actually be installed. I have a full version of Win 98 on CD.

Same thing with XP, it will ask for a quallifying CD like 98 full, but doesn't dump any files into the xp install, just checks the 98 disc to see if your eligible.
