I have not been able to install the fax console thru the control panel>printers & faxes. The system asks for a file fxsapi.dll located on my install CD. The file is located there but it is fxsapi.dl_ not .DLL Naturally, I cannot extract that out of the CD so the .dll is not found by that setup program.

If I could expand that dl_ to dll I might be able to install it by moving it into a folder and using the FAX setup to find it there.

That's not the correct path. You install the fax service in Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components button > and tag the "Fax Services" box.

as an aside, you can expand any file from your install CD by using the tool found in msconfig. Just run msconfig and on the opening screen you'll see the "Expand File" radio button.
