installing printer by name on network

    On Windows XP, I can install printers by name instead of IP address and check "print from this device if IP address changes" (or similar words). If I install by name on Windows 7 computers, will this also allow the computer to maintain communication if the IP address changes? There doesn't appear to be a similar choice in Windows 7.

    Not sure about Windows 7, but any network printer, if it has a built in print server, should have a static IP address assigned. And computers with attached shared printers should have static IPs as well.

    It makes the network more stable and easier to manage.
