I have downloaded and installed NS 7.2 on a new HP XP 2 machine. The application will not launch or do anything after install. It downloads the files and installs, but using the icons or the run commands or from windows exploere will not do anything.

I'm looking at several potential areas for review and could use anythoughts on what may be happenings.

    Potential Issues:

    1) JVM that installs with Netscape 7.2 is older than the one with the file (I have tried to install both with and without the JVM - many install and uninstalls)
    2) Tried with and without the firewall
    3) Tried with and without Norton antivirus

Is there something in Windows that shuts down Netscape? JVM conflicts? MS Firewall? Norton Firewall? Norton Antivirus?

Since you have a new XP I would not expect that you have the usual problems, i.e. you already have an earlier version installed, which was not uninstalled. There is a default profile, which would be shared, and that can cause problems.
You can try this link from Ramoma Netscape solutions .
Just remember that Netscape is made up of three components:
    1. The Program, which installs by default in C:/Program Files/Netscape/Netscape
    2. The GRE folder in C/Common File/mozilla.org/GRE/ a folder with 1.7.2 for NS7.2. If there is any other folder, you have a problem, guaranteed.
    3. The Profile. Please read this for location

So look around before wasting any more time. I don't feel that any of the other issues should be of concern, although you don't want to install the old JRE.

Thanks, that worked! I updated the regedit - removed the mozilla folder and installed again.

Great! But you must have had an older NS version installed. But, who cares now!
