I have tried to install macromedia flash. When I click the download button, it says: When you see the macromedia flash player 6 logo and text below, your installation was successful. But there is only an empty box below. Any ideas as to what is happening?

I have the same problem as you. I see that you are using MS Internet Explorer as I do. Since I use Windows 2000 the problem is with the browser. I’ve had at least 4 communications with Macromedia and they have given me links to download an uninstaller and Flash6 without having to access the regular download page. You can get both here:
    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
Download both files and save them to your disc, then you can execute them at will without having to access the Macromedia site.

However, in my case, even though installation was successful I still get blank boxes whenever Flash is required. I’ve gone so far as to clean out all references to Flash in my Registry and reinstall Flash 6. It still doesn’t work.

Out of desperation I downloaded Mozila, a brower based on Netscape. With this brower I was able to download Flash 6 for Netscape and it works fine. I have now made Mozila my default browser. I’ve discovered that it has a much neater organizer for bookmarks than Internet Explorer has for Favorites. It also is less of a target for virus hacks than IE.

I’m still trying to solve the Flash problem for IE. One thing that did not work for me but may work for you is to RUN in the command line: "SFC /scannowâ€, without the quotes. Observe the space. This utility checks every protected file. If a file is different from the original it replaces that file from the cache.

If you find a solution to your problem let me know.
