If this is a repost, please direct me. The searches I've done come up with stuff that's close, but doesn't seem to work...

I have XP SP3 on what started life as a Gateway (4100?)... the Mobo is all that's left of the original computer. XP runs fine, but is slowing down due to all the **** that's been installed/uninstalled over the years... I'd like to upgrade to 7... one of the gremlins is that some unseen piece of spamware **** has made my CD drive useless. The drive works in other PCs, but NO drive works in this one... I've run into it before, and a clean install fixed it... so.....

So I created a bootable USB using UltraISO with Win7...

BIOS select the USB to boot, and get an error about "windows failed to start" telling me I don't have the disc "\Boot\BCD" and status "0xc000000e "

Tells me to install my windows disc.

    any ideas?

    Have you tried Rufus?...

    http://rufus.akeo.ie/

It may not solve your current problem, but, who knows, it may be worth a try.

It didn't... but thank you for the info.

I ended up downloading a install-from HD version.. not what I wanted, but it'll suffice.
