Thanx for your reply but no, I'm trying to put Windows2000 on my system without losing all my work/mp3/etc.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

There are a number of ways to perform this that you could try.

Do you have another hard drive, if so, copy over your files to the second hard drive that you want to keep. Then format your first hard drive and rebuild.

You can repartition your primary hard drive, copy over the files you want to keep. Format the XP partition and rebuild.

Else back off your files to some other media. Format and rebuild.

But I dont know a way of overwriting XP to 2000, well not without a lot of hard work and patience and the possibility of completely ******** it up :p

    Hope this Helps

If you try to load 2k and xp is already installed, you will get a prompt "a newer operating system is already installed" and the 2k install will abort.

The only way to install 2k over xp is to format the hard drive (lose all files) and then run the 2k install. Therefore you must backup your existing files to removable media.

Another method is to partition the hard drive. This must be done using a program that can do this while in windows xp, such as Partition Magic. But your best bet is to just backup, format and install 2k.
