    can anyone`please help.
i have recently installed xp2 service pack onto my wifes laptop and now i cannot connect to the internet through either my wifi connection or lan connection.

when i try and to rèpair either connection i get nowhere where the wifi is concerned i have to do this:

when i click on repair it will not allow me unless i switch over to the wireless zero configuation utility.

once i click over to the woreless zero configuration i can then open and view wireless network connections where it has picked up the wireless network but again it says limited or no connectivity

when i click on repair i get windows cannot repair as it cannot renew your ip address please contact your administrator

there is nothing round with my modem as i can connect to the internet fine by wifi and lan with my laptop

i am going round in circles with this as i am no computer expert and i see this problem is something windows are aware of.
can anyone please help me in words i will understand please please please thankyou

What I would try is uninstalling SP2, finding driver updates for the hardware, if not all or most of the drivers, then at least those for the motherboard chipset and the wireless LAN controller.

Don't rely on Windows Updates to get the drivers, identify the hardware and find the drivers at the manufacturer's website.

If you need help, let us know the model number of the main hardware. If you are not sure, do you have the manual/User Guide that came with the computer? If it's a branded computer like a Dell, HP, Compaq, etc, the main drivers will be at their website.

thanks for the advice guys but it seems that there is a bug in sp2 which microsoft are aware of and have doen a patch for.
however even with the patch you still my encounter problems

i have now fixed the problem. it seems there is a bug in the SP2 service pack which effects some computers and not others and even if you install SP3 the problem persists.

i managed to fix the problem by going to this link

    www.pchell.com/support/limitedconnectivity.shtml

under "what steps can i take to fix this problem" download the zip file which includes the microsoft patch and another patch which comes with simple instructions.
i followed this advice and my wifes laptop is running fine thank god.
