I have recently done a re-format of the hard drive followed by reloading of Windows 98. I have a sound card, a modem card and an ethernet controller card installed in my pc but these devices aren't being found at startup. I am not getting the install new hardware wizard window.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sandy

Try removing the Modem. ( if internal ).

Sometimes an Internal Modem will prevent other hardware from being picked up properly. ( even the Video )

That is why I went to and External Modem years ago. Far less problems ( in fact none ) when changing the OS.

    Boot to safe mode.
    Go into device mangler.
Remove all com ports, modems, and anything in "Other Devices ".
    Restart.
