What can i do too make this go faster? You can press shift + F10 under installation to modified things like move the pagefile and inactivate system recovery

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

In Help and Support find "Improve Windows searches using the index: frequently asked questions ". I have removed a lot of places that I will not be searching and if I do happen to search there it will infrequent enough that I wouldn't mind waiting a minute or two for the results.

When do you find it is slow? The index should be "built ", then unless you are making big changes, then it should not need constant updating or "maintenance" (from the way I read the information).

If you have lots of files in one folder, when you open that folder Windows loads information for the files (like thumbnails for photos or MP3 information). Is this when it is slow? Try making sub-folders that do not have large numbers of files.

If the hard disk is being accessed, try disabling file checking programs like antivirus or antispyware and see if the disk access stops.

This is an addition by SP1:
Edit: I looked more closely and you talk about installation, so I hope this is relevant. Sorry if I missed the main point. Installation, I don't like rushing installation, it often ends in re-installing :)

    Matt
