Installation of Updates

    I just finished installing three updates from Microsoft's update page.

    Total size 1.6mb.

    Download took 20 seconds.

    Installation took 7 and one half minutes.

    Only window open was Microsoft Update page. Grisoft AV and Zone Alarm Firewall were running.

    Why is installation so slow? I have a problem with not having the AV software running when I am online (I have Road Runner Cable) but temporarily disabling the firewall would not be a problem.

    What can I do to speed up these installations which are always slow?

    Do you recall which updates you installed - the odd one downloads only an installer and then downloads the rest of the package when the install starts. Those that come to mind are DirectX and Update Rollup

    I think you have that backwards, RickyD2. Turn off your AV if you want, but NEVER turn off your firewall while you are online.
