I've been trying to install a card reader on the USB hub. After the install process I get the following error message: "The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name "
This is Windows 2000 SP3; what is it trying to tell me?

    TIA,

    Rand

It's trying to tell you it thinks the device is already there.

This was a fairly common problem with upgrades from NT4 to 2K. USB, parallel, PCI, and other devices.

Best suggestion I can make is to check device manager and if you find an entry for it, delete the entry. Then search the registry for (well, you didn't mention a device name but look for that or a driver name or something) whatever and if you find it, delete the entry/entries.
