I have a problem with zipped data (on a CD-R) downloaded via broadband from another cpu (America's Army Ops 1.9) in that when it is unzipping to my \local settings\temp folder, the unzip process encounters CRC errors!! Trying the same CD-R on another cpu (IBM) the unzipping & installation is fine.

    I have a Pentium 4, 1.6GHz, 512MB DDR RAM, 128MB FX 5200 GPU, 40GB ATA HDD running XP Home Ed SP 1.

I have tried various progams such as "Advanced Zip Repair v1.6" and the so-called "fixed" zipfile still had CRC errors occuring during the unzipping process.

The CD (LG 52x speed) was checked a month ago and the retailers said it was fine. I have used CD-ROm lense cleaners and cleaning clths on the CD.

A search on the web, someone said that it could mean the HDD/motherboard or chips may be about to fail??? I have a P4VXMD motherboard with VIA P4X266 Northbridge & Southbridge chipsets. The HDD was replaced some 1.5-2yrs ago.

I have even reinstalled the OS and tried to load the game but still the CRC errors occur!! This is with nil programs loaded ie. no antvirus prog or XP updates!!

Can anyone help me at all and inform me what to look for or is there a program that can stop these CRC errors. NOTE: it also happens occasionally with demo game installs off computer magazine CD's. :( :(

    Problem Solved!!

I solved my own problem, the culprit was nVidias's graphics driver version 56.72. I uninstalled 56.72 and installed an earlier version and no more CRC errors when unzipping packed files.

Thanks for sharing the solution to your problem - clearly it beat everyone on the Board :D

Video drivers are not unknown for being the source of apparently totally unrelated problems.
