I'm pretty sure some programs do this while others do the opposite...some programs, if installed by a particular user of a muti-user system will only be shown to that user, while some programs, no matter who installs it shows itself to all users...

Is there a way to force an installation of a program to only be usable by certain users of a multi-user system?

I have a system with one administrator and 2 limited user accounts. I want to be able to install a program only for the administrator and not the limited user accounts...

    Is this possible?

    - in Documents & Settings, check the 'all users' account and if the shortcut is there, remove it and put it in the admin account. Users won't see it then.

    - in the folder containing the .exe file, go into security and make sure the administrator account has full access then remove/delete any other users and groups (everyone is probably there now).

No one except Admins will see the shortcut and if a user knows to go to the exe and run it, it will not let him/her.

If you run XP-Pro (and always a good idea to specify when asking an XP question) you can just use Windows Explorer when logged on as an administrator to do the above.

If you run XP-Home, you will have to boot to safe mode as the administrator to even see the security tab for the folder.

    Thanks, Newt.
I had a feeling that's exactly what I'd have to do.
I was more or less looking to see if there was an option during installation that I was missing...like weather or not you should or had to use Add Software in Control Panel...

Joe - well written software (at least what I'd consider well written) should offer the option for Current User or All Users and let you select.

Unfortunately, lots of stuff doesn't. Purely a matter of how the developer wrote his/her code and not much you can do except tweak after the fact.
