I am running windows xp pro on my computer, I have a second hard disk which I put in as slave to format as it would not format on its own with a startup disk & ME. I have now formated the disk in XP. Please can any one tell me how to install ME onto this disk when it is my slave drive as I don't want to put it in the same drive as my XP pro.

The hard drive that I have fitted as slave was in my old computer. I had a problem with booting this disk "NTLDR is missing" is what I saw before the booting compleated and could go no further. I put the disk as slave in my new computer to see if formatting in XP would over ride this problem, even after formatting I still got this error and I wish to install an operating system to see if I can pick up this file. but I need to know how to install the o/s with it as the slave drive

You can disconnect the drive with XP on it and then install Me on the other and reconnect them, but that won't solve the problem. In general, you muxt install th operating systems in a ME first order; that means reinstalling XP after you have ME installed. Then you;ll be able to boot either system.

Hmm, one thing comes to mind about formatting and XP. Did you allow XP to format it to a NTFS file system? That is the default for XP I believe, and you will not be able to install any 95b, 98 or ME operating system on it. These use the FAT32 file system.
If it is NTFS, you will need Delpart. It is small enough to be copied onto your boot floppy, and it will delete any partition on the drive. You will need to then run Fdisk and create a Primary Partition and make it active, then reboot and format it.
Then use the drive as the Primary Master, install ME, and reinstall XP on the Secondary Master, and the dual boot will be setup for you.
What error message did you receive when you first tried to format it?
