When I install the driver for a newly added Geforce mark II
video driver the screen goes hashed.
The Windows 98 screen is fine when loading then when the screen becomes hashed i.e. it is unreadable in any way.
I have tried various drivers which all seem to be the same
with various names. It is the correct driver for Windows 98.
Any ideas ? The driver was ******* in so I believe that the
    driver is seated properly.
The machine is an AMD 350 with 192 mb of Ram.
Any ideas ???

    Hi schamish

I was updating/installing a new driver for my GeForce card. I rebooted, my view was very warped. Spent 30 minutes trying to resize the windows when I notice my display settings had reverted back to 640x480. Set them back to proper, worked fine. Im not sure if your "hashed" = my "warped "...... Good luck.

    Hi.

More than likely when you installed the drivers for the Geforce Mark II it set the scan rate for the monitor too high. Windows uses a low (probably 60 Hertz) until it loads the driver and then reverts to the settings it has for that driver. I would change the scan rate down to 60 and then go up the scale and try for 85. If it's hashing now then 85 may be too high but work up the scale. Whats happening sure sounds like this problem.

If you can't get it to a good screen try safe mode and see if you can handle it there.

you are right and new fancy monitor

You were correct in your assessment.
However after I changed the settings coincidentally the monitor turned a green color. I assumed that I had bent a pin.
After much attempts to bend the pins back I finally phone a geek. He was very helpfull and shared the tip with me to use the head of an empty (or emptied) mechanical pencil to try to deal with the bent pins.
No luck. It turns out that the pins necessary for color were o.k. the monitor had just coincidentallyh packed it in.
What an excuse to get a fancy new flat screen monitor.
L.C.D. are very nice but no way can I justify one. :p
