Hey um, im having this very annoying problem with my laptop from a small local manufacturer, they use all the normal stuff from like intel and nvidia and stuff so its not a dodgy manufacturer or anything, but like recently when i insert my usb i get a bunch of blue screens which are really starting to annoy me. Ive been getting a bunch of messages like the 'irql_not_less_or_equal' and 'multiple_irp_complete_requests', and then sometimes with the irql one, it says there's an error in the files 'ntfs.sys' or 'partmgr.sys' (not always though, only sometimes). The thing is..the laptop never crashes on me if i do not use usb devices[mainly external storage too], but at this day and age, most people cant really live without usb devices. Could some people give me some advice on what is wrong or anything i can do to fix it?
i've looked around on google and stuff, but i havent really found a solution that could fix it. especially since this is a laptop i cant just pull parts out to see what is wrong.
I've uploaded 2 minidumps, if someone has time, and is very nice, can they please take a look and help me out? im like partly praying that its a hardware problem so that i can get a refund or something lol. thx in advance.

hajublari - Welcome to the Board :)

We will happily look at your minidumps, but only on the BBS - in this thread ....

Run the minidumps through our Dump Data Collection Tool and post the logs here (copy/paste) - spread over 2 or more posts if necessary.

    Please note .....
Have you tried reinstalling the USB controllers and root hubs? Uninstall/remove through Device Manager - or the Vista equivalent - I run XP, and reboot to let Windows redetect and reinstall.

This is the second, and yeah, they only happen once i insert a usb device...
hmm, after looking at this dump myself, i had originally never considered this possibility but um, 'klif.sys ( klif+7fbe )' is a kaspersky file isnt it...do you think that it might be because of that? i can try uninstalling and seeing if it works..but i'll probably have problems with anti-virus and stuff if i remove it :(

    MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS (44)
A driver has requested that an IRP be completed (IoCompleteRequest()), but
the packet has already been completed. This is a tough bug to find because
the easiest case, a driver actually attempted to complete its own packet
twice, is generally not what happened. Rather, two separate drivers each
believe that they own the packet, and each attempts to complete it. The
first actually works, and the second fails. Tracking down which drivers
in the system actually did this is difficult, generally because the trails
of the first driver have been covered by the second. However, the driver
stack for the current request can be found by examining the DeviceObject
fields in each of the stack locations.
    Arguments:
Arg1: 843b2718, Address of the IRP
    Arg2: 00001d00

It only happens when using USB? I wish all blue screens were isolated like that

Pete mentioned uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers. You could also try getting updated drivers for the USB controllers, they will be with the motherboard chipset drivers (Intel or nVidia?). Look for the system specifications that came with machine.

Has SP1 been installed and did it start then?

partmgr.sys is involved with "storage" (drives). Do you have a USB printer (scanner, or anything else that does not have a drive/storage system), does it happen if you connect that?

A storage drive system that you use may have software installed with it. It may be flash/micro drive that uses a software program to access the drive with special features. It may be the software for a "one touch" backup program for an external hard disk drive. Look at your storage USB drives that may have software involved with them, the software may not be working correctly.

    Matt

Well, yeah ive gotten the latest intel chipset drivers for usb (intel express 965 family).
Well to be honest i dont think i've had problems with usb devices that werent portable storage, because i don't need to use like usb mice or usb printers often...

however when you mentioned the usb printer, there was one incidence..the very first blue screen ive ever gotten was because i plugged in my usb printer because i was too lazy to turn on my computer, and i was in a hurry, the usb printer was installed with the proper drivers, or so i think, but they didnt have like that little icon in the task bar thats like 'safely remove devices' and i just turned the printer off then unplugged it. it was then that it gave me an irp blue screen. i very very rarely have irp errors, normally irql ones. i cant give you a dump of that crash because i formatted like twice already and nearly filled my hard drive each time with my stuff

well i uninstalled kaspersky...so im seeing if i still get blue screens, ill keep you posted..its strange, because i didnt have any problems before vista SP1, but after SP1, i started getting them, the blue screen from unplugging the printer also happened after i installed SP1, but ignored the possibility that it was the service pack.

About the um special software with the portable storage...im using a SandisK cruzer 4 gigs, and also some maxtor 300 gig external hard drive, i dont think the external hard drive has any special programs with it, and with the sandisk usb stick, i forcefully formatted the usb stick to get rid of the program, neither the portable hard drive nor the usb stick has crashed on insertion into my desktop, only the laptop, so thats sorta saying that its just the laptop thats got the issue

Well, im thinking that my problem is less serious than the ones a lot of other people are having, ive got a friend who's laptop is like freezing when he inserts usb lol, doesnt even blue screen, just freezes there and nothing works, not even the light for the caps lock when he tries turning it on and off.

I'll try using the laptop as i normally do over the next few days and see if i still get the crashes (now that i've uninstalled Kaspersky). ill keep you posted. Thanks for directing me to those debugging tools and stuff :D
