I hear conflicting reports on use of 3rd party and/or remanufactured ink cartridges for HP printers I have an all in one HP photosmart 7050 - the 3rd party inks are much cheaper but i read user reviews that say they are no good, others say they work. what is your advice in this?
    thanks

Here in the UK I run my HP Officejet 6000 on remanufactured HP cartridges with no issues and significant savings. If there is a drawback it is the ink levels are not shown, but it's clear when one has run out :)

The printer is used only for docs - photos are printed on an Epson R3000.

We have 4 HP printers in the house and all use Refilled Cartridges from Cartridge World. Like Pete said - the ink level indicator doesn't work with anything but HP NEW cartridges.
These cost twice to three times as much as refilled ones. I have no trouble with ink quality or presentation - it's just a HP RIP OFF!
They sell the Printer at low cost - then try to rip off the user with highly inflated cartridge prices.
Just Beware of some of the cheap Chinese re-manufactured units. Neil.

Unless the print head is a part of the printer, I wouldn't worry too much about using aftermarket ink. Many HP printers have the print head built-in to the ink cartridge, and if it gets clogged by aftermarket ink, all you have to do is replace the cartridge.

Personally, I prefer a built-in print head (built-in to the printer) because separate name-brand ink tanks are cheaper to buy than cartridges, but if the built-in print head ever goes bad, it can cost big bucks to replace it.

I have used the ink refill service at Costco for my HP printer for a couple of years now with no issues.
It's 1/3 the cost of a new cartridge and prints perfectly.
They recommend replacing the cartridge after the 4th refill.
