    Dear All,

I receive this message while trying to access the drives on my PC running Windows XP Professional SP3 "Initializing the root folder to display ". I have disconnected all the drives that are Offline but it still persists. It freezes and i cannot access even the drives that are available.
A quick solution will be highly appreciated.

This is usually caused by a mapped network drive that is not responding. Try disconnecting any mapped drives and then reconnecting them.
This might also be related to a card reader in a printer where the printer software maps drives in for use.

One other option that might cure this is to uncheck "Automatically search for network folders and printers" in Tools>Folder Options>View tab in My Computer.

Hi Amdace, thanks for the advice. It was actually a mapped drive that had it's target changed recently that was causing it. I eventually got the path to the new target and it worked.
