I have only captured (on purpose) 3 files. I was surfing windows explorer and in one of my temp files there was at least 20 captured Infran files  What did I do or not do to make this happen. Next, how do
I put a captured file e.g. a dialog box into one of these posts??
Ramona got me started on this InfranView. Joe R.

Click on the reply button to bring up a blank message window and then scroll down to Additional Options > Attach files and hit the Manage Attachments button. A new window opens with a browse button. Browse to the location on your drive where the file is located, highlight it > open and then hit the Upload button. When the upload has completed close the window and return to the Reply to thread page. The file name will appear in the Attach files section as confirmation that it has been uploaded.

Note the file extensions that are permissable ....
A Preview of your post will not show the attachment, but it will appear when you post.

If you have Irfanview set as the default viewer for a certain file type (like .jpg for instance) then any time you look around with windows explorer and see a .jpg file, it will show the Irfanview logo. The same will happen if you change default viewers for .jpg - you will see the logo of the new default viewer.

If you surf the internet, you will acquire quite a few small picture files - and most of them .jpg or .gif. They are stored in a temp folder for quicker reloading of web sites than if you had to reacquire the necessary pictures for a site to display properly. It is not a nasty but is a normal part of internet use.

The picture below is of a small portion of my temporary internet files. I have Irfanview set as default viewer for all image files so you see that logo on the .jpg and .png files.

We meet again :) Thanks for the reply.
Pete: Wish my printer was working so I could print your reply :( Now I have to hand write it.
    Newt:In C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Local Settings\Temp I have 218
objects, only 3 of which I actually captured.
    In C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files,
I have 3611 objects, about 20-30 are Infranview, which I don't need or want.
Any problem deleting all the Temporary Internet Files? How about all the
Temp Files except the 3 I want??

What do you think about saving the Infranview files I actually capture in a folder of their own under Local Settings ??

Each time you go to a web site every item on the page you view is saved in Temporary Internet Files - this includes images of buttons, thumbnails, logos, etc. These are generally .gif or .jpeg files which no doubt were associated with Irfranview when you installed it - hence the Irfranview icon against each.

You may clean out all the files in C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Local Settings\Temp - a couple may be in use and thus cannot be deleted. Easiest way to access is .....

Start > Run > type in %temp% > OK. This will open the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Local Settings\Temp. Copy any captured files you want to another folder, say My Documents and save all your future captures there. (A Temp folder is just that - a location for temporary files which are no longer required by the computer. Unfortunately XP does not delete them for you on shutdown) Select all and delete - with the proviso noted above.

No problem in deleting the Temporary Internet files - right click the IE icon on the desktop > Properties and on the first tab under Temporary Internet Files click 'Delete files' - do not delete cookies as some of these will store login information to some sites you visit.

It is a good idea to delete the Temp Internet files when IE is shut down - this can be automated by going ....

In IE - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and scroll down to Security and check 'Empty Temporary Internet files folder when browser is closed'.

    Hi again Joe.

Any files you have in Temporary Internet folders are safe to remove. Any files you have in system-created temp folders are safe to remove with one exception. If you have installed new software and not rebooted, some of them may be needed but after a reboot, they can go.

As to 'Irfanview files', there is no such thing other than the Irfanview .exe file and a few others that are part of the program.

What you have is picture/image files that you have set Irfanview as the default viewer editor to use but they are still only graphic files. It's the same as if you create a text document using Notepad. What you have is a text document and any text editor can make changes in the document but the way windows PCs are set up by default, double-clicking a .txt file opens it in Notepad and Windows Explorer displays the Notepad icon for a text file.

If Irfanview is set as the default viewer for .jpg files then you will see them displayed with the Irfanview icon and a double-click will open them in Irfanview. Change to Paint as the default viewer and they will suddenly change over to using the Paint icon.

    Joe,

Highlight and copy the text in the post to WordPad, or any text editor. Then right click the images and copy them to your image folder. You never have to do any manual copying...
