Hi, first of all, excuse my english.

I have a problem with Infopath, maybe I should tell you all the story:

First of all, I am an Infopath noob, so sorry if its a very easy problem XD.

I needed to connect an Infopath form to an Oracle database, so I used an Access database to do the connection. It works, I can do submits and queries directly to Oracle using the forms and the Access database. I feel that is very limited, but ok.

Now I need this: when the client submits new data, the Id field is not automatic (is not my fault, is the people that made that table in the oracle database), and I cant change it. So the client has to enter the new ID at the form.

The problem is that when the client enters an already used ID, Infopath shows an error message (that's obvious), but my client is just a normal human (XD), and that message scare him, so I need that Infopath look at the ID field in the table in the access database (to prove that is not an already used ID). Is easy using sql or access, but from Infopath, how?

I hope you car solve my problem, thanks.

I would add a column to your Oracle table specifically for the customer's record ID and let it NOT be an autonumber. Technically, you need not even leave your AutoNumber field in your form. Just change the source for the text box that is currently your AutoNumber field to the new customer ID field.

This would free up your customer from witnessing the error, and allow you to maintain record integrity between the unique IDs in your oracle table and the customer's records.
