I am having the strangest problems with one of my user's computers. Whenever he clicks on the "notes" option in the folder view in Outlook 2003, Outlook crashes. IT sends an error report but no information is provided.

I tried backing up his folders individually, wiping his outlook.pst file, re-importing folder by folder (without importing the notes subfolder) back into personal folder files. I had assumed that this had fixed things when I clicked on "Notes" and it didnt crash, but after creating my first note, Outlook froze up. Restarting Outlook and clicking on "Notes" produced the same crash scenario as last time.

My next though was perhaps we have a troublesome add-in. So I checked the add-in list, and there are exactly two. One is the AVG Antivirus Outlook Extension, and the other one is something like "Exchange extensions ". I went ahead and disabled the AVG extension to see if that was causing the problem. No help there.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting? My next step is probably going to be a complete new start with a different MAPI profile in outlook. This seems a little drastic though.

Have you tried clicking on Help-> and using the detect and repair function?

Do you have both service packs installed?
