An odd problem has occurred with the image thumbnails displayed for some of the jpeg files in a sub-folder of My Pictures. When the folder is viewed in thumbnail view or filmstrip view, some of the thumnails displayed are of different jpeg files that are contained within that folder. In filmstrip view the correct large preview image is displayed above the filmstrip when a thumbnail below is selected. The correct file image opens OK. The folder is set up as a Pictures folder.

I would be grateful for any advice on either correcting this problem, or understanding how to avoid it happening in future.

I understand that the thumbnail images are linked to a file dbthumbs, but altering that file (or even finding it) is beyond my knowledge.
By the way, what difference does it make whether a folder is set up as Pictures or Photo Album? I have not noticed any difference!

    Many thanks, Nick

Thumbs.db is a protected operating system file that resides in the same folder as your images. You can view it by going to Tools>folder options>view and unchecking "hide protected operating system files. "

Not sure how to fix the problem. Try deleting the thumbs.db file. If it doesn't fix it, don't worry, it'll come back the next time you open the folder.

Many thanks for that info. I will play around with the thumbs.db file and see if that works.

I need to go out of town and away from this computer for a few days. I will post a further update later.

Many thanks, The incorrect thumbnails problem was cured by deleting thumbs.db for the folder concerned. And re-accessing the folder caused the correct thumnails to be generated.
The only cause of this problem that occurs to me is that it appeared to happen when new files were added to the folder at a time when the computer was running very hot (it was in a room above 30 degrees C at the time and the cooling fan was going into overdrive).
