incomplete boot & thrashing

The problem started with trying to remove Norton2003. Finally thought I had removed it & the computer began freezing at strange times. The freeze is realted to the 'problem' (whatever that is) rather thatn a perticular problem & seem to be related to high disk activity.

For instance Norton2003 virus scan freezes.
Disclean freezes
defrag freezes as does some registry scanning tools such as regclean.

Another prob is that I've downloade Mailwasher' tool & get DTVM has casued a fault.......when the install icon is clicked. It works on other machines & the same error occurs when attempting to open/install other pgms.

Any help would be appreciated.


It's very difficult to detrmine if there's a virus when U can't run virus scan.

 

If you'll look around the Symantec site, you'll find a little exe that is designed to completely remove all traces of a Norton installl. They are well known for only partly going away and causing problems.

The app was first written to deal with the fact that pre-2002 versions would prevent 2002 from installing and often the uninstall wasn't complete. But it should work for your situation as well.
