incompatible RPC stub error (IE6sp1)

    I've got a system running 98SE and IE6sp1. If I hit CTRL-N to open a new window, it works. If I right-click and choose open in a new window, the window opens but nothing ever shows up in it. If I use CTRL-F to find text, IE gives an incompatible RPC stub error dialog and goes down. I already tried using the repair facility available when you "uninstall" but it did not make any difference.
