I recently updated InCD v3.5.2.0 to the latest InCD v4.0.7.2, and now Scandisk and Defrag won’t run. Tried running NSW Disk Diagnostic from the CD, and it indicated it could not run because some program was writing to the HDD. To troubleshoot did msconfig and when InCD unchecked from the startup list, Scandisk and Defrag ran Successfully.
Does anybody know why this version apparently writes to the HDD continuously, whereas previous versions did not??

Why is InCD even in the startup list ?.

I know that the install of it does put it in the startup group but it can be taken out.

Isn't it only needed when creating re-writeble CDs ?

Does anybody know why this version apparently writes to the HDD continuously,

Unless I am missing something I did not know that it did write to the HD. I thought that all it did was to setup ( format ) Re-Writable CDs

    BillyBob,
    Thanks for the quick response.

I agree, it IS put in at Install, and that's why I'm asking also. I also know it's only needed when creating CD-RW's.
I've been using Ahead's InCD for at least 3 yrs. and I've never encountered this before.
I did do a normal Install for the Updated InCD, and then the reboot.

I may be mistaken when I said it writes to the HDD, But when I ran Nortons System Works "Disk Diagnostic ", it said some program is writing to the HDD, and when I removed InCD as I stated in my previous post, that Diagnostic ran fine.

By the way I did remove those items one by one until InCD was the only one to let the Diagnostic Run OK

So you can see why I'm confused:confused:

It may be something new it the new InCD. I started my older version and it did not stop Defrag form running. But it is not in the Startup group either.

Also I find A LOT of newer software to be doing strange things that they did not do before.

Just about everything I install wants to be in the Startup group.

I use Startup Cop to control that ****.

    Question;

Did this problem start immediately after the install of the new vesrion, or did you try to set up a CDR and it did not close out properly.

I myself did shut InCD down too quickly once and it did cause problems.

I would say yes, but at the time I wasn't real sure, so with all my so called years of trouble shooting system problems, I tried NSW Disk Diagnostic , because I knew I could scarf off some more info from it, which I did. Then that's where my mind went bonkers.

I'm with you on this one!!
I have the "old" version and I think it's going back in, since with this one I don't really see any so called "Improvements ".

Thanks again for your input...but this is a wierd one to me.;)

Most new versions of your favorite software are like your local
Family Mart that changes it's store layout at least monthly.
They have nothing new to sell but hope you will buy stuff you do not need as you wander round trying to find stuff you want.
The only exception I have ever seen to this is AVG free antivirus.
    regards
