Using Outlook XP through Citrix and Windows 2000 Server, and Exchange 2000.

One of our users email shows (1) new message in both the Outlook Bar and the Folder List but she has no new messages. When she receives new messages it always shows 1 one more than she actually has.

Just a minor annoyance but I can't seem to find anything about this sort of thing anywhere... yet. I'm still looking but I thought I'd see if anyone here has ever come accross this sort of thing before.

Is it possible that piece of new mail is sitting in the trashcan?

Unfortunately, no. If that were the case it would have the number next to the deleted file. Besides I have the mailboxes set to empty the deleted file whenever you exit Outlook.

I think I'll try to move everything in the inbox to another folder and see if that will make it go away.

    Well, that didn't work....

I completely emptied the inbox and it still said there was a new message. It's probably a registry entry somewhere but I can't find it.

Something similar here, but with OE. And it appears the fix was only temporary.

I asked about this and found several folks who had seen the same sort of thing. Per them, there is a post in there that is hung and hiding.

The best 'fix' seems to be to load Exchange Client 5.0 on the PC. Apparently it is too old and stupid to be fooled and sees these things so you can read and delete them. After that, revert the PC back to the client version it needs.

Chances are excellent that whoever messes with the Exchange Server has a copy of the older client lying around somewhere.
