    Hello expert(s),
I've spent many days in finding a solution for this problem. At last I've found this forum and I'm hpeful that you would help me.

I've just moved from Win2000 Pro to Win XP Pro and copied my all important files from backup. However, I've discovered to my horror that, my inbox (Netscape 7.1 email) including some of my address books are missing. I couldn't find them in my backup. Well, on my D: drive, I can see Mail and News folders, but no signs of inbox (even after displaying hidden files). Looks like backup didn't backup inbox file. Please help me how and from where ( was it under my profile on C: drive or under my Mail box folder) I can retrieve inbox. I've found another inbox file from an old (2 years old) backup, but can't display the message. How can I display? Please help me. Thanking you in adavance,

    Rchakma

    Welcome to the Forum, rchakma!

    Hi Rchakma,

If you backed up your Mail & News folders, I can't imagiine that your Inbox would not be included in the Mail folder. This is a first for me. Did you use a program to backup or did you do it manually?

I'm sure you have done a "Find" for Inbox, or if you can remember a subject on one of the messages, do a "Find" for that as well (Inbox - Containing Text....).

I'm not clear on which HD you have Netscape installed, or if you moved to another PC, or installed XP on a separate drive.

    Thanks,

    Ramona

More info on my inbox problem

Thank you very much to you, Ramona for youre prompt reply. I was praying that you would reply me. Now I think I understood what my real problem was. I thought my email profile on D: partition (NTFS) and I copied all files/folders in D: drive to a dvd. Later when I installed Win XP and Netscape 7.1, I found that all my emails were gone. That's because, I think I learned from your one answer, my default email profile was on C: partition - which I didn't back up. Now I know the problem, please help me with this:
    (A) If I find a copy of email profile from one old backup copies of C: drive, how can I merge my present inbox and old inbox to get all my messages?

    (B) If, somehow, I can undelete my all folders on C: drive and retrieve my email profile, what would be the best way to integtrate my this old email profile with the present profile, without loosing any content?

Thanking you in advance for your answer and expert advice,

    Rchakma

Close Netscape and Quick Launch, then open Windows Explorer
First, ensure that you have a backup of the old account
Rename the old Inbox file, without the MSF extension, to OldInbox
Copy it to your current Mail Account folder.

If you are talking about Mail only, then do as I stated above, simply renaming the files without the MSF extensions, and move them into the current Mail account folder. When you open Netscape, you will see the OldInbox, OldSent, etc., files listed in the left panel.

If you wish to merge them into the current Inbox, Sent, Draft, etc., folders:
Open the folder (OldInbox, etc.) and press Ctrl+A. (This will highlight all the messages.)
Right click the highlighted messages and then click "Copy to"
Select your current Mail account's Inbox
Once you are certain that the Mail is working properly, and you have all messages merged, then you can delete the OldInbox, OldSent, etc. folders.
Next, and most important, backup the entire Profiles folder on a frequent basis.

One word of caution: don't allow your Inbox to becomes too large, as it is not intended to archive messages. You will risk losing all your messages. It might be best to create an Archive folder in which to place older messages.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona
